Woodnest
Banksia
Thank you for booking your stay with us at Woodnest. We are delighted to share with you this incredibly designed treehouse. Banksia Treehouse is the highest of the two Original treehouses, and is named after the Australian wild flower Banksia.
Important information
The hike can take about 25-40 minutes, depending on fitness levels and weather. It is steep and can be slippery when wet, so we would strongly recommend bringing good hiking shoes and suitable clothes. You will also find snow spikes in the garage that you can slide on under your shoes in case of snow and ice. Remember to remove them before entering the treehouse. Large parts of the trail consists of stairs of wood, stone and aluminium, and uneven ground. There are not a lot of railings to hold on to.
Directly opposite the garage, on the other side of the road, is the start of the path that will lead you to the treehouses. There you can see a Woodnest sign and some wooden stairs, and if you follow the stone steps and power lines up and into the forest, you will come to the Woodnest forest. The path is marked with poles and the Woodnest logo.
When you reach the top of the large wooden staircase, Kongla is the first treehouse you will see. Do not go up towards it, but follow the signs to Banksia and the path to the left until you reach the next treehouse which is Banksia.
If the weather is bad, or you do not think you will be able to do the full hike; you can halve the hike by contacting the local taxi company, Odda Taxi at +47 53631444. The taxi can drive you from the garage to a turning point higher up for about 150 NOK. You will need to organise this yourselves and call them in advance. From the drop-off point you can enter the path next to the water tank. Follow the silver stairs into the forest.
The parking is close to Kleivavegen 21, 5750 Odda. The best route is via Jondal/Tørvikbygd which involves a drive-on ferry. You do not have to prebook the ferry.
Parking is available in the garage as in the picture.
The starting point of the hike is on the other side of the road from the parking.
If your car is too tall to fit in the garage, parking is also available on the street as close to the wall as you possibly can. The road is narrow, so you want to make sure that cars can easily pass your parked car. If the car is too wide to be parked in the street, or you are driving a trailer/camper, we recommend parking downtown at the parking area of the Odda church or the shopping mall "Sørfjordsenteret" which offers free parking.

Checkin: 3 pm
There is no checkin desk. Whenever you arrive, you can make your way up to the treehouse and use the keycode to enter your treehouse.
In the winter season we recommend arriving no later than 3 pm as it gets dark early, and there are no lights along the path.
Checkout: 11 am
Depending on availability, you can order a 12:30 pm checkout for an additional 500 NOK by contacting us at post@woodnest.no.
We ask that you send a text message or Whatsapp to (+47) 921 44 851 when you have checked out. Please wash your dishes before you leave.
The code to the door of the treehouse is 004#
Punch in the code, then wait for the display to turn green, then pull the handle down and the door is open.
The Lovenest Package is the only food service we offer, and only if you have ordered this. The package is a welcome snack platter with cheese, biscuits, cured ham, fruit, chocolate and locally produced cider. This will be in the treehouse at your arrival.
For an authentic Norwegian cabin-tradition, we recommend bringing groceries to make your own meals during your stay. Keep in mind that the kitchen space is small with two stovestops but no oven, and all you need of pots and pans. There is also a mini-fridge. You would want to keep it simple, but tasty:)
There are several local grocery stores in downtown Odda where you can get what you need for your stay. If arriving on a Sunday or a public holiday, the local grocery stores might be closed, especially outside of the summer season, so we recommend planning ahead.
If you prefer dining out, scroll further down to see some recommendations for local restaurants in the area.

There is a fire extinguisher in the treehouse. With that being said, don't risk your lives if there happens to be a need to extinguish a fire. In cases of fire in the treehouses or the surrounding woods, please contact the fire department immediately by calling 110 and walk down to the garage area.
If you need to contact us throughout your stay please contact us on post@woodnest.no or in cases of urgency call +47 912 40 112.

We highly recommend hiring a car as public transport in the area can be tricky. This would give you the flexibility to explore the places in the area worth visiting. However if you do prefer travelling by public transport, we recommend using this site: https://www.rome2rio.com/map/Bergen/Odda
At the moment buses leave Bergen bus station every day at 8:55 am and 11:55 am. The journey takes 3 hours. Taking the earliest bus will give you time to have a meal and get the groceries you need before making your way up to the treehouse. Be aware that times may change and weekends and public holidays may have fewer departures.
The return journey is a bit more tricky with only two buses leaving from Odda to Bergen at 5:30 am and 5:30 pm. You may want to consider going via Rosendal for other options if you are returning to Bergen. Some guests have used the app "entur" to plan their journey.
If you arrive with an electric car, you will find a charging station located at the parking lot of the local grocery store.
